Empower Autism is proudly an Autistic led organisation, with leadership and decision making shaped by people who identify as Autistic. Our work is grounded in the belief that the most meaningful and effective outcomes are achieved when Autistic voices lead the design, delivery and evaluation of services and supports. Combining Autistic lived experience with strong evidence-based research, we deliver practical information, support and skills development and empowerment services to Autistic people together with their support networks.

Our Employment Mentors provide personalised guidance, practical workplace strategies, and ongoing support to empower Autistic job seekers to gain confidence, develop skills, and succeed in their careers, through our Empowered Pathways program. From job preparation and interview coaching to workplace communication and career growth, our mentors support turning strengths into opportunities.
Desirable skills
- Experience in mentoring, coaching, training, social work, or group facilitation.
- Previous industry experience.
- Understanding of the social and human rights models of disability, or willing to learn.
- Knowledge of a trauma-informed approach to learning.
Key Responsibilities
Service Delivery:
- Establish the foundations of a mentoring relationship with the mentee.
- Support mentees to identify suitable career paths.
- Input into and work with mentee’s Pathway Plan, inclusive of goals and milestones.
- Support and refer mentees to external services aligned to their support needs such as training/education providers.
- Conduct regular 1:1 mentoring sessions with mentees at a location suitable for them.
- Monitor achievement of mentee milestones.
- Appropriately support mentees to further develop work-readiness and life skills.
- Operate with flexibility, being mindful and responsive to mentees’ support needs.
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain appropriate administrative records as per the policies and procedures of Empower Autism.
- Collect accurate data to inform progress and outcomes reporting and evaluation within the reporting period timeframes.
- Use approved technology/software to support engagement and communication with mentees and their support networks as per the policies and procedures of Empower Autism.
Risk Management and Safety:
- Contribute to ensuring Empower Autism’s workplace is a safe and healthy environment.
- Contribute to an environment where staff take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of other personnel who may be affected by their conduct.
- Work within the Workplace Health & Safety requirements and standards as part of the WHS Act 2011.
- Identify, manage and report risks as per the policies and procedures of Empower Autism.
- Meet all personal duty of care requirements.
- Advise direct line supervisor of any emerging issues to proactively manage risk.

Volunteering FAQs
With a wide range of services and programs to be involved in, there is something to suit all commitment levels. We recognise that the level of involvement you can commit to will vary depending on your personal circumstances such as; study, work, and family commitments. We’ll also support you to adjust your commitment as your personal circumstances change.
We provide a comprehensive induction into Empower, together with specific training for the program/s you’ll be volunteering in. Our staff will be there to support you whenever needed.
We have a duty of care to ensure a safe environment for employees, volunteers & participants and in order to ensure this we need our volunteers to provide, obtain or commit to the following:

- Yellow Card
- Police Check
- Referee checks
